Winsford campus students take part in Winsford regeneration workshop

Students at Warrington & Vale Royal College’s Winsford campus were delighted to take part in an exciting virtual workshop with Cheshire West & Chester Council and Cine-window Winsford. Students studying HNC Fine Art, HNC and HND Applied Art, and Level 3 Graphic Design were all invited to take part.

The session was delivered by Lyndsey Ryder-Moulton, the council’s Senior Regeneration Officer, and Winsford lead artist Cath Campbell, who runs Cine-window Winsford- a community space showcasing the creative talent of local residents.

During the workshop, the students were informed about the exciting regeneration plans for Winsford town centre. The plans, funded by £9.98 million from the Government’s Future High Streets Fund and £11 million from the council, will see the introduction of new retailers and space for events and activities.  The students were encouraged to discuss Winsford town centre amongst themselves and come up with their own suggestions for improvement.

The students were then invited by Cath to paint eye-catching placards to illustrate their ideas. The students were asked to take inspiration from the artist Bob and Roberta Smith, whose work centres on creating painted signs to voice his opinions. The students’ bold placards displayed various ideas such as art fairs and exhibitions, bistros, more spaces to showcase their work, and a cinema.

The students really enjoyed taking part in a creative task while considering the improvements that could be made to their town. Level 3 Graphic Design student Callum Crabb said: “The workshop was really fun and interesting, it was a great experience.” Ben Brady, the college’s Assistant Director for Art, was delighted that the college was able to take part in the session, saying: “This was a fantastic opportunity, we were so pleased to be approached. The students have really appreciated the opportunity to share their views and opinions in such an engaging and creative manner.”
