Starting at college – your questions answered!

Whether you have applied or have already secured your place, you may have some questions about starting at Warrington & Vale Royal College later this year. This compilation of questions frequently asked by school leavers will give you an overview of what will happen this summer and how you can get ready to start your exciting new course.

When will I have an interview?

This summer we are conducting interviews and offering college places over the telephone. You will receive a text telling you when your appointment will be. The text will also include contact details of our admissions department, so you can let us know if you can’t make it. Usually, we would interview you in school or on a college interview evening.

Is there any preparation work I need to do?

Our school leaver welcome site, put together by our expert tutors, contains videos, links and worksheets for you to do in preparation for your new course. You will be sent a link to the site after you enrol onto your course.

Does the college offer free transport?

Yes. If you are going to the Warrington campus, you can sign up for a place on the free college bus on our website. Make sure you select the correct bus route for your area. If you are going to the Winsford campus, you are entitled to a free Arriva bus pass, provided you live more than 1 mile away.

What equipment will I need?

A list of the uniform/equipment you may need for your individual course will be shared with you over summer. For every course, it is a good idea to make sure you have a set of basic stationary.

Am I entitled to any financial support?

Yes, we have means tested bursaries available to support you with your studies. If you contact learner services they can help you with this.

What if I change my mind on my course?

It’s fine to change your mind! Simply let us know, and we will arrange another interview for the new course you have chosen.

What if I get lower grades than I expected?

No problem. If you don’t get the results you were hoping for, we can help you find an alternative course or course level to suit you.

Will it be safe to start at college in the current circumstances?

Your safety is our top priority. We are following government advice on the COVID 19 situation, and our dedicated college Health & Safety team will put measures into place to make sure everybody is safe.
