School Leaver – frequently asked questions
What kind of courses does the college offer?
We offer a wide range of courses including Vocational, Apprenticeship and an exciting brand new A level programme for September 2019. There are many different subjects available which are all detailed in our prospectuses that are hand delivered to schools and on this website. You can view our courses by clicking here.
What if I don’t know what course to do?
Choosing your college course can be one of the most important decisions you can make after leaving school. To make the best choice, students need to research their options using college websites, school visits and careers advisors. Our school engagement team regularly visit schools throughout the year to provide students with information about courses available. We also host open evenings which allows prospective students and parents the opportunity to look at our facilities and to meet tutors.
What if I don’t like the course I have enrolled on?
The first three weeks at college are really important in terms of ‘Checking your Choice’ to make sure you are happy with the course you have selected. If you feel you are on the wrong course, the first thing to do is to speak to your tutor/Learning Coach, they will then be able to go through other options available and talk about the possibility of transferring to a different course.
What is life like at the college outside of the classroom?
In one word, fantastic! Our relaxing spaces include The Crescent at Warrington where you will see students playing snooker, pool, table tennis, Wii games or simply just watching TV! We also have an ‘Active You Team’ who are regularly running classes like Clubbercise and we also benefit from a free gym on site for those who like to stay fit and healthy.
How do I find out what grades I need to achieve for my desired course?
We always encourage every student to visit our amazing campuses so you can speak to our qualified tutors during open evenings to check entry requirements. However we do deliver prospectuses to schools which include details on each course. Our school engagement team can also answer these questions during school visits and events. Alternatively, you can check out our ‘School’ page here or call the college directly for more information.
How do I keep up to date with what events are on and learn more about the courses I am interested in?
You can follow us on our social media accounts where we post all the latest information about open evenings and college events. We also share pictures and information about what our current students are up to including trips abroad and project work so future pupils can see what they might get involved with!
