Parents – prospective student

Supporting and advising your child through the decision-making process as they prepare to leave school can be difficult, especially if you don’t feel knowledgeable about the options available.

The best advice we can offer you is to:

Attend our college open evenings
Meet our friendly staff, tour our state-of-the-art facilities and explore all the study options available. Use this opportunity to ask questions about our links with high-profile employers and how we will work with them to ensure your son/daughter is as ‘job ready’ as they can be. Our Principal and Deputy Principal also deliver parent presentations at our open evenings. For open evening dates please click here.

Explore this website
Search courses, read the course information and find out about curriculum area facilities where we have highlighted key information for you.

Visit our stand at year 11 or year 10 parent’s evenings at local schools
Come and have a chat with our school engagement team at your school’s parent’s evening. We also attend school events every week, deliver assemblies, lunchtime drop-ins and attend careers fairs. Encourage your son/daughter to talk to us and discuss the options available to them.

Attend a 1:1 with a member of the careers team with your child
If you feel your child needs additional careers advice, a member of our specialist careers staff will sit down with you and your child and delve deeper into his/her interests and career aspirations. Try this link to access a fun quiz to help your child discover their career likes and dislikes. You can also take a look at careermag for parents. Their latest issue is filled with articles about options for school leavers.

Ask your child to apply to study with us
They are not committed and do not have to make a decision to study with us until GCSE results day in August.  The pre-college interview with a member of our staff will also help your son/daughter with their decision making. You are very welcome to join them at the interview, in fact a lot of parents do accompany their child to their interview.

Once your child is offered a place at college, he/she will be invited to a college taster session.  You too will be invited in on the same evening to meet our Principal and ask her any questions you may have.
