Huge skills shortage in the trades; brickwork, carpentry & joinery, electrical installation & plumbing

Did you know that almost half of the nations construction workers are set to retire in the next 20 years?

There’s obviously never been a better time to enter the construction industry.

Warrington & Vale Royal College offer a a wide range of courses; level 1, level 2, level 3 and level 4 (HNC) in the construction trades and all are delivered by staff who are passionate about their subject and served their time, out in industry.

The trades team has a flexible approach to apprenticeships – so, if you are on a college course and then find an employer we will convert you to an apprenticeship straight away.

The teaching staff have worked hard over the years to develop strong relationships with employers such as Persimmon homes, Cruden Construction, Forterra, Serco, H20, Taylor Wimpey Homes, David Wilson Homes and Vinci Construction.

In fact, Persimmon Homes recently took on six of our level 3 bricklaying students as apprentices once they’d completed their course.  Their plan is to take on a further ten this year as well as five joiners!  Forterra also recently donated £10,000 worth of bricks to our brick workshop!

All our full time students go on work placement for a minimum of one week.

Talented brickie Jack Bircham was recognised as one of the best in the North West after coming second at the SkillBuild Competition.

He said: “My dream is to become a site manager and I feel confident that I will achieve that goal thanks to my time at Warrington & Vale Royal College and my apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey.”
