English at Warrington & Vale Royal College #wherereadingmatters provides an excellent opportunity to further develop your English skills in a range of ways and on a variety of courses. We offer resit courses for those requiring GCSE English to progress and Functional Skills English courses as a stepping stone to the GCSE course. We also offer ‘Improve your English’, ‘Preparation for GCSE’ and ‘Creative Writing’ courses. All these courses are available in the daytime or evenings for both school leavers and adults.
We are a dynamic and forward looking English team with close links to all the vocational areas and English provision is very much seen as part of the core programme of study at college. Our success story includes the running of our reading campaign where all our English students are encouraged to take part in the Reading Ahead Scheme (six book challenge) and many of our vocational students take part in the ‘Accelerated Reading Programme’. These schemes have a fantastic impact on student results. Warrington & Vale Royal College is very much #wherereadinghappens; we have a different approach as we try to give students an experience of English inspires them to engage with their reading.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the Curriculum Manager of English, Adam Tudor at Atudor@wvr.ac.uk, if you want any further information.
