Newly refurbished Novel Bite Cafe reopens at Winsford Library

Warrington & Vale Royal College‚ Novel Bite Cafe, based at Winsford library, has recently reopened to the public following a period of closure due to the pandemic. Staff, students and members of the local community gathered to celebrate the reopening with hot drinks and an array of homemade treats.

Students at the college‚ Winsford campus worked collaboratively to refurbish the cafe prior to reopening, providing a bright and relaxing environment for the local community to enjoy. The college‚ HE Art students designed an impressive wall mural featuring prominent local landmarks, while HE Graphic Design students created eye-catching signs and promotional materials. The college‚ Assistant Director Ben Brady gave a speech at the reopening, highlighting his pride in the way the students have pulled together to create this fantastic space. Ben says: This really is a testament to the efforts of all staff and students in working towards this amazing collaboration. Our students do a fantastic job of running the Novel Bite cafe, with the support of our dedicated teachers and support staff. I would also like to highlight the incredible work undertaken by our HE Art Practice students to create the seven metre long wall mural of Winsford landmarks, along with the excellent branding and logo work carried out by our HE Graphics students.

The Novel Bite Cafe is staffed by the college‚ Foundation Learning and Pre-Internship students, providing an ideal space for them to develop their confidence as well as valuable life skills such as cooking, cleaning, communication, and handling money. Their employability skills such as teamwork, customer service and working independently are also enhanced. Sara Shaw, a Lecturer in Foundation Learning, is delighted that the cafe is open once again, saying: This is a perfect supportive environment for our students to learn and work in. They enjoy the 'live' setting and the experience it offers them. We are thrilled to engage with our lovely customers again and look forward to welcoming new ones.

The cafe is proud to serve the community of Winsford and has received lots of support from local groups including Motherwell Community Coffee Group, St. Luke‚ Hospice and Making Space. The cafe is open to the public Monday to Thursday from 9.30am-3pm, offering a range of refreshments, snacks and light lunches. For more information call 01606 275065.
