Graphic design student Shyam named as the winner of college Christmas card competition

The creative talents of graphic design student Shyam Patel will soon be landing on the doormats of headteachers, dignitaries and employers across Warrington and Cheshire.

Shyam, a level 3 graphic design student at Warrington & Vale Royal College’s Hartford Campus, was named as the winner of the college’s Christmas card competition, with his festive design now being distributed to the college’s stakeholders, including local councillors, MPs and employer partners.

Inspired by the magic of Christmas, the former Tarporley High School pupil’s winning design features Santa’s sleigh, complete with snowflakes.

Shyam – who is planning to continue his studies at Nottingham Trent University in September and hopes to move to America to set up his own business – said he was delighted to be named the winner of the competition.

He said: “Never in my life have I ever won a competition, so this feels fantastic, although it was a bit of a surprise. I’m really happy that it’s going to be sent out on behalf of the college.”

As well as designing the college’s Christmas card, Shyam has also been instrumental in the organisation of a Christmas shoebox appeal, in aid of those living on the streets in Liverpool.

Shyam, who is part of the National Citizenship Service’s Youth Council, added: “My tutors at the college are really supportive and push us all to take part in opportunities like this. I am really enjoying my time at the college – the graphic design course is brilliant!”
