Students studying graphics, games design & media at our Warrington campus will study in our brand new Advanced Creative & Digital Skills Academy, equipped with the latest industry-standard equipment and software, working alongside some of the industry’s top employers.

Trips and visits

Our students have participated in a variety of exciting trips to locations including the Arcade Club, the Manchester Design Festival, EGX Rezzed, Manchester Comicon, and Bury Arcade Club. You may even have the opportunity to visit Alton Towers, or take part in the Warner Bros. Studio Tour!

If you have previous experience within digital, media, games design, or IT, or have previously studied a digital media, gaming, or a similar course, you may wish to enhance your skills further by embarking upon a HNC or HND course. These courses are designed to build upon your creativity and technical skills, ensuring you are in the best possible position to progress onto university or into employment.

Lleyton Holden Games Design

Lleyton Holden is thoroughly enjoying his course, in particular 3D modelling and working with the latest industry software.

The former Hope Academy pupil describes his college tutors as friendly and supportive, and believes the course has set him on the right path towards his ambition of creating a brand-new independent video game.

I have learnt so many photoshop, illustrator and traditional design techniques which I am eager to put in practice. Tutors always give constructive feedback and inform us about events and future opportunities.”

HND student Laura loved the fact she was able to work part-time alongside studying at college and found she was still able to maintain a happy social life. She said the best aspect of studying at the college was the amazing tutors who she was “always genuinely happy to see”. Laura has now progressed to study at University of Chester and hopes to work for a design company in the future.

Daelan has particularly enjoyed learning how to use a professional camera correctly and exploring how to frame shots.

Meet our tutors

Phil Mac Donald

Phil MacDonald

Creative Media Lecturer Phil MacDonald has a wealth of industry experience, having worked on a variety of high-profile TV projects including BBC Two's Springwatch 2020, Channel 4's The Secret Life of the Zoo, and ITV's The Voice. Phil has been teaching at the college for two years and says: "My favourite thing about teaching is witnessing the progress of the students. Listening to their ideas and then seeing their finished productions is so rewarding."

Ellie Strowger

Ellie Strowger

Graphics and Media Subject Leader Ellie Strowger has taught at the college for seven years and enjoys sharing her passion for graphic design with her students. In the past, Ellie has worked on various commercial graphic design projects from branding and corporate identity to packaging design. Ellie also takes up freelance design work alongside her teaching, ensuring she stays up-to-date with the latest industry trends.

Sam Kidman

Sam Kidman

Games Design Tutor Sam Kidman is really passionate about the video game industry and has a great deal of experience, having worked for TT games and even setting up his own games design company. Sam also achieved a BA (Hons) Games Art from the University of Bolton, before progressing onto an MA Games Development. Sam enjoys sharing his knowledge with his students and helping them reach their full potential.
