With the housing market continuing to grow, bricklaying apprentices are needed more than ever before. As a bricklaying apprentice you will gain a good insight into the construction sector, and take on a variety of hands-on tasks. As a Bricklayer you will lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches. The tasks you carry out during your apprenticeship will prepare you for full-time employment and a career in this sector.
On completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice will be able to undertake the full range of duties, in the range of circumstances appropriate to the job, confidently and competently to the standard set by the industry.
As a Bricklayer you will gain a varied scope of knowledge of how the construction industry works. Bricklayers are very much in demand and as a result can earn high salaries. As a Bricklayer you will get to work on a variety of projects, no two jobs will be the same. You will develop your skills giving you a sense of accomplishment after each task is completed.
To become a competent Bricklayer you will learn how to lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures e.g. chimney stacks. Depending on your job role, you may also refurbish brickwork and masonary on restoration projects.
The range of sites and projects that bricklayers will work on can include large commercial developments, new builds in housing, alterations, extensions and restorations.
As a bricklayer you may work one-on-one or on larger jobs where their bricklaying group (gang) work on a particular section of a building alongside other bricklaying gangs as well as other trades.
The apprenticeship is delivered over a 24 month period of time, you will attend college one day per week following the academic timetable whilst working. Whilst an apprentice it's likely you will have a tutor and an assessor. You will be fully supported through your apprenticeship from start to finish.
The construction industry has a vast variety of career paths and after becoming a qualified trade's person you can pursue anything from Site Management to owning your own business.
You will be allocated a designated apprentice coach to guide you through your apprenticeship. We also have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required and a welfare team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

It is advantageous to have had previous work experience and have GCSEs Grade C or above in English and Maths but not absolutely essential as support will be given.
