Engineering

Studying engineering will provide you with the technical skills, practical experience and underpinning knowledge required to achieve employment in this thriving sector. If you would describe yourself as a logical and inquisitive person who enjoys gaining both practical and theoretical knowledge, engineering could be the right pathway for you! Our courses range from level 2 or level 3 BTEC courses for school leavers, to HNC and HND electrical and engineering courses and finally, level 2, 3 and 4 electrical and engineering apprenticeships.

I am a

Higher Education Learner

Our higher education courses in engineering are designed to expand upon your prior knowledge and prepare you for employment or further study. These courses will qualify you to begin working in the sector or enhance your knowledge within your current job role.

Our HNC and HND engineering courses cover a vast range of modules such as engineering design, lean manufacturing, and further mathematics, providing you with all of the specialised in-demand skills that employers are seeking.

Meet our students

Rob Young Resized

Rob, who has a degree in biology, previously worked behind a desk but didn’t feel satisfied in his role and wanted to retrain in a more practical profession. So, he enrolled on our HNC General Engineering course.

So far, Rob has learned the basics of electrical engineering and mechanical principles, and has been introduced to scientific and mechanical engineering. Rob says: "As electrical engineering was new to me, I have really enjoyed learning about it. It helps that my tutor is always available and provides timely coursework feedback.”

Jason Jones Resized

Former electrician, Jason Jones, is currently enrolled on our HNC Electrical & Electronic Engineering course to further his career. He chose to study his Level 4 qualification here at Warrington & Vale Royal College as it is close to home, and his colleagues recommended the course.

Jason says: “The facilities at the college are perfect for what I need to learn. My tutors have been so helpful throughout the course so far and make it clear that they are always available to answer any questions I have.”

Daniel Morgan Resized

Daniel Morgan enrolled on our engineering course to further his knowledge and skillset to advance his career path. Daniel previously studied Sports & Exercise Science at university but thought that an apprenticeship was more suited to him, and he was attracted to the fact that he could learn on the job.

Daniel says that one of the best aspects of studying here is the fabulous facilities and the fact that lessons are at a good time that fit around his other commitments. As Daniel has switched career paths, this is his first time learning about engineering, so he has loved learning the fundamentals of the subject; he is grateful that his tutor is efficient in giving feedback on his work after each unit - it gives him a good idea of his skills.

Arthur Flynn

Arthur Flynn is one of the college’s senior Engineering lecturers, having been a chartered engineer for over 35 years, as well as owning several companies in the engineering and property sectors.

His favourite part of teaching at the college is working alongside a team of widely experienced engineers dedicated to providing outstanding education to future engineers. He said: “Seeing inexperienced students becoming confident and industry-ready young adults is the most fulfilling part of my role. I love that my students get to interact with quality equipment as well as learning their theoretical knowledge. It is this applied knowledge that gives our students the edge in industry.”

Jade Wilkinson

Jade Wilkinson

Jade Wilkinson is Curriculum Manager for Engineering and Science and has been teaching at the college for the past eight years. Jade is passionate about both Engineering and Science, and seeks to ensure that students gain the practical skills and theoretical knowledge they need to secure a successful career.
